The Dancheong Plate, finished in traditional ottchil lacquer, is a functional kitchenware piece inspired by motifs drawn from Dancheong, the ornate decorative patterns of Korea’s royal palaces. It embodies the lotus motif—symbolizing pure vitality and spiritual life force—alongside the Yeoui (如意) motif, which conveys a heartfelt wish for all endeavors to flourish and come to fulfillment.
Further elevated through the meticulous process of hand-carved woodcraft, the rim is shaped with chisels, leaving deliberate and vivid tool marks that honor the trace of the artisan’s hand. These sculptural textures enhance the plate’s artistic presence, evoking the natural bloom of a lotus in full flourish.
