This ring is inspired by the traditional Korean butterfly knot, capturing the moment a living butterfly appears to gently rest upon the finger. Rather than merely reproducing the form of the knot, the work seeks to extend its sculptural qualities into a living, animated presence.
Within the Korean cultural context, the butterfly symbolizes transformation, beauty, and vitality. These meanings are translated into a contemporary visual language, where the ring band traces the imagined trajectory of the butterfly, forming an organic and continuous structure.
Although it is a single ring, it is designed to appear as if two rings are worn simultaneously, blurring the boundaries between tradition and modernity, ornament and structure. The open form allows for subtle size adjustment, incorporating a functional flexibility that complements its sculptural intent.
The piece is crafted entirely in 92.5% sterling silver. Its luminous, refined surface evokes the quality of moonlight, serving as a material that most effectively expresses the narrative world of the Lunar Spring series.
To emphasize movement and the flow of light, a pear-cut moissanite is positioned beneath the butterfly knot, accentuating a sense of dynamic motion. The brilliance of the cushion-cut and round-cut moissanites suggests stars within a lunar landscape, contributing to the work’s fantastical atmosphere. Freshwater pearls, with their soft luster, harmonize with the inherent qualities of silver, enhancing the sense of vitality and elegance throughout the piece.
Ultimately, this work moves beyond the decorative use of traditional knotting, exploring its potential as a sculptural form imbued with movement and life.
Sterling silver may naturally tarnish over time due to exposure to air and sulfur. When not in use, it is recommended to store the piece in a sealed container to minimize contact with air.
As silver is a relatively soft metal, it may be susceptible to scratches or deformation from external pressure or impact. Please handle and store the piece with care.
Freshwater pearls are organic gemstones and may be sensitive to chemicals found in cosmetics, perfumes, and hair products. It is advisable to avoid direct contact and to gently wipe the piece with a soft cloth after use.
Prolonged exposure to water, sweat, and humidity may affect the luster of the materials. Proper care is recommended to maintain the piece’s original appearance.
