This ear cuff is based on the traditional Korean butterfly knot, capturing the moment a butterfly briefly comes to rest at the ear. Moving beyond the simple reproduction of form, the work focuses on extending the motif into a living presence situated on the body.
Drawing on the butterfly’s associations with transformation and vitality, the piece translates these qualities into a sculptural language that naturally engages with the structure of the ear. The ear cuff is positioned to anchor at the central curve of the ear, creating a sense of stability, as if the butterfly has settled into place on its own.
When worn, it evokes the impression of a butterfly gently resting on the ear. The flow of the metal and its structural composition are carefully balanced to convey both tension and equilibrium within the form.
The piece is crafted entirely in 92.5% sterling silver. Its luminous surface recalls the quality of moonlight, serving as a material expression of the narrative world embodied in the Lunar Spring series.
Centered around the butterfly knot, moissanite and freshwater pearls are arranged to emphasize the interplay of light and texture. The brilliance of the moissanite suggests stars within a lunar landscape, while the freshwater pearls introduce a sense of vitality and elegance through their contrast with the metal surface.
When wearing the ear cuff, gently open the piece and place it onto the ear, then apply light pressure to secure it in position. Due to the structural thickness of the body, a slightly firmer pressure may be required. Please avoid applying excessive force, as this may cause deformation.
Sterling silver may naturally tarnish over time due to exposure to air and sulfur. When not in use, it is recommended to store the piece in a sealed container to minimize contact with air.
Freshwater pearls are organic gemstones and may be sensitive to chemicals found in cosmetics, perfumes, and hair products. It is advisable to avoid direct contact and to gently wipe the piece with a soft cloth after use. As the pearls in this piece are bonded, care should be taken to avoid impact or excessive pressure.
Prolonged exposure to water, sweat, and humidity may affect the luster of the materials. Proper care is recommended to maintain the piece’s original appearance.
