This earring is based on the traditional Korean butterfly knot, translating the trace of a butterfly as it passes along the ear into a sculptural form. Rather than reproducing the butterfly’s shape, the work focuses on extending its movement and afterimage as a presence on the body.
Drawing on the butterfly’s associations with transformation and vitality, the form is reinterpreted as a structure that follows the natural curve of the ear. The composition wraps gently around the ear, visualizing the path of the butterfly’s movement and creating a continuous sculptural flow when worn.
While it appears similar to an ear cuff, the piece is worn as an earring, offering both stability and an alternative mode of adornment. This approach proposes jewelry not as a suspended object, but as a form that engages with and extends along the body.
The piece is crafted entirely in 92.5% sterling silver. Its luminous surface recalls the quality of moonlight, serving as a material expression of the narrative world embodied in the Lunar Spring series.
Centered around the butterfly knot, moissanite and freshwater pearls are arranged to emphasize the interplay of light and texture. The brilliance of the moissanite suggests stars within a lunar landscape, while the freshwater pearls introduce a soft, living contrast to the cool surface of the metal.
Due to variations in ear shape, this piece may not fit all wearers comfortably.
