KERAPIECE explores how familiar forms and imagery are transformed through clay, glaze, and fire, creating ceramics that naturally connect past and present, art and everyday life. Its collection includes cups and vases inspired by the Joseon-era chaekgado paintings, glaze works that capture the colors of the seasons, and functional tableware and objects defined by distinctive forms and textures. Rather than simply reproducing traditional materials and visual language, KERAPIECE reinterprets them through its own per.

The Chaekgadohwa Vase Object explores new sculptural possibilities by combining the distinctive beauty of traditional Korean ceramics with the pictorial composition of chaekgado, a genre of painting from the Joseon dynasty. Moving beyond the two-dimensional expression of chaekgado, the work transforms and reimagines the form of a celadon maebyeong through the compositional structure of the painting, giving it a three-dimensional presence as both a decorative interior object and a functional vase.
Rather than simply borrowing traditional forms, the work focuses on translating the distinctive perspective and spatial arrangement of chaekgado into a three-dimensional form. By reinterpreting the graceful curves and balanced proportions of traditional Korean ceramics through a contemporary sensibility, it presents a sculptural harmony that naturally connects past and present.

A Cup of Tradition, an Afterglow of the Seasons
Inspired by chaekgado paintings from the Joseon dynasty, the Chaekgadohwa Cup Set is a set of ceramic liquor cups featuring expressive illustrations that capture the changing seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The pictorial structure of chaekgado and the colors of the seasons have been reinterpreted through a contemporary sensibility and transformed into a modern cup design.
Rather than directly reproducing the symbolic elements found in chaekgado, the design reimagines historical Korean ceramic forms—including the melon-shaped maebyeong, the traditional maebyeong, and the moon jar—within the distinctive compositional framework of chaekgado. By reconstructing the unique forms and aesthetic qualities of traditional Korean ceramics through the pictorial composition of chaekgado, the collection creates a new sculptural value in which past and present come together in harmony.
Through a design where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously, the collection offers an experience of holding the changing seasons within a single cup.
