A Seokdeung is a stone lantern erected within Buddhist temple grounds.
Historically, it was used to dispel darkness and illuminate the surroundings, while symbolically embodying the Buddha’s light and the prayers and aspirations of the people.
This work is a tealight candle and incense holder that also functions as an object, inspired by the Stone Lantern at Gakhwangjeon Hall of Hwaeomsa Temple, Gurye period stone lantern designated as National Treasure No. 12 of Korea.
