Creator Intro

My work is based on the process of growing through countless repetitive actions. Constant exploration of the art of the hand is one of the human values. Humans reach technical proficiency through repeated learning that takes a long time. Sociologist Richard Sennett (born 1943~) says that everyone has a desire to do a good job without rewards, and to this end, reaching technical proficiency is a craftsmanship. Everyone has this aspect of a craftsman, and in the process of moving toward skill, they experience a sense of efficacy. I see this point as the core of craftsmanship. I think that the process of reaching skill through repetitive actions is a process of growth that only humans can experience, unlike machines. The traces left by humans are shaken and incomplete, but their imperfections are evidence of progress toward completion. Each trace functions as part of the process leading to the next stage, not failure or deficiency.

This concept is visualized through the act of cutting the surface several times in the form of a spinning wheel. I try to reveal the craftsmanship and accumulation of time experienced as a writer through various techniques that express repeatability, such as caving and face cutting. The shaved sides are engraved with different depths and lengths, but they are recognized as a single conclusion. This refers to all experiences and processes toward completion, not the state that has already been completed.

In the end, what I am trying to say is the importance of the process rather than the result. I take the process of growing through repetitive actions as the essence of craftability, and reveal the repeatability and time through techniques such as spinning wheel molding, face cutting, and caving. Furthermore, I intend to reinterpret traditional Korean techniques such as caving and face cutting and express them modernly.

ARTWORKS

My work is based on a craftsmanship that grows countless times over and over. Constant exploration of the art of the hand is one of the human values, and I tried to see this as the core of craftsmanship. Unlike machines, the process of acquiring skill through repetitive actions is thought to be a process of growth that only humans can feel.
I tried to express this as a process of cutting the surface several times in a form made of a spinning wheel, and reinterpreted various traditional Korean techniques that visually emphasize repeatability, such as caving and face cutting, to reveal the craftsmanship experienced by the artist as a work.
